The Aberdeen Aikido Club

Aberdeen University Aikido Club

The Aberdeen University Aikido Club practiced the Iwama Ryu style of Aikido until 2004, the club's history prior to this date is largely unknown by its current members, although we do know that there was an Aikido Club at the University dating from 1974. In September of 2004 it became apparent that the club wouldn't be able to continue in its present form due to the club's student committee all leaving simultaneously. Fortunately there was another qualified Aikido instructor studying at the University of Aberdeen at the time, Mike Haft. Mike offered to take over the running of the club so that it wouldn't close and the club became affiliated to Banyu Hatten Aikido under the supervision of Geoff Flather Sensei, 7th Dan.

Flather Sensei makes regular visits to teach at the club. As far as we are aware he is the highest ranked Aikido Instructor to ever teach in Aberdeen.
